Educational Equity Definition
Educational equity is one of the most effective approaches to eradicating gender inequality, a social construction where some individuals are treated as more superior than others based on their gender. Any society that seeks gender equality ought to empower its girls, women, boys, and men through educating them equally.
Gender inequality is evident in the family dynamics, valuation of professional performance, decision-making in various institutions in the society, for example, religion. For gender equality to be achieved, society has to change our attitudes, behaviors, beliefs, and policies regarding providing equal opportunity and treatment of people of different genders.
Gender inequality covers the mere lack of gender-based discrimination and the avoidance of separation of the genders for any short-term gain, as it exacerbates inequality in the long run. It is also important to note that different degree of gender inequality exists in a different society, with higher degrees existing in less developed countries.
In most cases, the male gender has an educational advantage compared to the female gender, and a few societies in the world are beginning to develop male disadvantages in education (Ferriss, 2004). However, global efforts recognize the need to ensure that there is educational equality beginning from an early age, something that is likely to cause a ripple effect of equality in other aspects of their society over time. Inequality manifests in access to education, the ability to complete the education cycle, and, consequently, their achievement levels.
Educational Inequality & Gender
Educational inequality based on gender increases with specific factors like pregnancy, poverty, minority status, disability, early marriage, and geographical isolation. The enhancement of gender equality in society begins with providing quality basic education to all people regardless of their gender, which helps equalize the individual understanding of the various concept of their nature and the world at large.
For gender equality to be facilitated in education, women, men, boys, and girls should have equal and complete access to education. Gender inequality in education manifests itself in different numbers of learners who drop out of school from each of the genders, with gild being more likely to drop out of school than their male counterparts (Ferriss, 2004).
The education systems in various countries have played a significant role in enhancing educational inequality based on gender. This is because it creates the necessary conditions for discrimination and prejudice based on gender. This can be rectified by facilitating advancements in research, practices, and policies needed to ensure an equitable educational experience for people from a different gender.
Education & Health Inequality
Education, along with health, is an essential prerequisite to enhancing an individual’s quality of life. The existence of a gender disparity in education has persisted over the years where boys tend to better learning, achievement, access, and continuation with their learning at the expense of their female counterparts (Ferriss, 2004). Additionally, education can be viewed as a means of eradicating gender inequality in society and eradicating inequality in society.
This is because education has a role to play in the general enhancement of equality of life by providing opportunities to all members of society with the knowledge, they need to modify their conduct throughout their lives. This is a core issue of concern in an attempt to guarantee sustainable economic development in the country, a core aspect of improving the quality of life over time.
Additionally, equal education provides the members of society with a good understanding of themselves and the world at large, which benefits society and the individual. With a good understanding of the world, education provides the individual’s ability to promote technological advancement, which improves the productivity of both labor and capital.
This has an important role in increasing the total value created within a given society and its potential to improve the quality of life for her people. Therefore, additional equality helps ensure that all society members have an equal chance to improve their productivity and creativity, which play a key role in ensuring social progress through equal opportunities to improve the quality of life globally. Therefore, education should provide the individual with the skills to earn a living in the labor market, and the ability to create value in society.
Education provides people from all genders with the capacity and knowledge to remove any misconceptions by providing the wit the underlying principle of life, thus not having to rely on employment opportunities to earn a living. It grants them the chance to guarantee a decent quality of life over their life independently. Therefore, educational equality is not only good for the individual but also the society at large (Ferriss, 2004).
This is because it presents a diverse range of society members with the tool to understand themselves and the world around them and thus their ability to contribute to society positively. Additionally, s not only a means to create value and a means of ensuring that there are healthy power dynamics in society and thus different perspective on how to improve the quality of life in society at large.
Disparity achievement, based on gender, is due to socialization rather than merely a result of biological “sex” and can be eliminated through proper education for all society members (Stockard 2006). Therefore, the education system is responsible for the educational disparity in society, especially through the internal structure in schools. This presents a situation whereby educational inequality is a factor of the structural inequality within the education system.
These are biases built into the educational organization, the government determinants responsible for education, and societies’ concern for equality. Therefore, I am an ingrained advantage for people from a certain gender, mostly the male gender, while marginalizing the women. Therefore, structural inequality in the education system is embedded in the culture, which can be corrected with deliberate effort to ensure that marginalized groups can catch up.

Structural Issues in Educational Equality
The structural issue in education is prevalent in the public-school system, which shows the government’s role in enhancing society’s inequality. Therefore, structural inequality can be eradicated at the government level by executing policies that guarantee equal opportunity for all, especially through resource allocation (Stockard 2006). The most effective policy that ensures educational equality is the allocation of equal resources to every learner. One of the manifestations of structural gender-based inequality in education is the critical race theory, whereby minorities are disadvantaged in the education system and thus have unequal access to education.
Women are also inherently disadvantaged in the education system, which is manifested by their ability to achieve higher levels of academic performance, especially in science, technology, and mathematics, which directly impacts society’s quality of life. Therefore, eradicating gender-based educational inequality is for society’s benefit by providing opportunities for all members to contribute to improving a societies’ potential to compete on the global scale.
Structural inequality in the education system is a manifestation of social inequality as society tends to determine who deserves more educational opportunities than its counterparts. This way, parents are more likely to encourage their male children to attain a high level of academic achievement and less inclined to do so for their girl children. This gradually snowballs to the policy level where structural inequality exists (Stockard 2006).
Society has a say on who attains educational achievement by allocating resources and effort to ensure that this advantage is retained over the long hall. Therefore, all the society members have a role in ensuring that there is no educational inequality through personal effort and ensuring that government guarantees equal opportunity to all people through actionable policies.
Educational equity ensures equality of opportunities and presents the individual with up-graded career prospects, thus providing them with a chance to improve their wellbeing (Ready et al., 2004). The school system is also responsible for facilitating gender inequality through gender socialization. This is because an individual in modern society is exposed to gender in the family and school setting, influencing their growth over time.
At the family level, the gender roles assigned to the girls tend to draw them away from educational opportunities through repetitive house chores that limit their exposure to the world and their abilities. This is inculcated at a young age where the boy children get toys that improve their curiosity about the world, whereas the girl trains at an early age to live a more tamed and less adventurous life.

Attitude and Behavior towards Gender Inequality
The attitude and behavior towards gender inequality are introduced to an individual in modern society at an early age and is reinforced by their peers in conjunction with the educational system. Therefore, the government policies tend to favor boys over girls generally. Through gender socialization, the girls are trained to ignore any inconsistencies in the education system, ensuring that they are disadvantaged over the long term (Ready et al., 2004).
Therefore, the girl is more likely to drop out of school and have fewer chances to redeem their opportunity to thrive in the education system. Schools are part of society, and thus the existence of educational inequality based on gender is a sign of an underlying structural issue in the society and not just a matter of government policy. Therefore, the education system should be used to enhance gender socialization in society, ensuring educational equality and equality in order aspects of life.

The education system can be used as a lens on the underlying gender inequality in society and instill knowledge on the causes and ways of eradicating gender inequality in society. Therefore, one of the most effective means of ensuring equality in society is ensuring that there is equality of opportunity for both male and female learners through equal resources allocation and gender socialization to guarantee equality in society at large.
